Benja Thai Restaurant – Authentic Thai Food in the Heart of the Okanagan

Screen Shot 2016-04-27 at 8.46.04 AMI visited Benja Thai Restaurant upon my return trip from a weekend away in Osoyoos. I recall quite clearly voicing hesitation about Thai food in the middle of the mountains of Canada. Yet we decided to give it a go, which turned out to be an excellent decision.

Benja Thai Restaurant is owned and operated by the Chaicomdee family, restauranteurs who immigrated from Thailand in 1989 living in several locations before setting up shop in Keremeos. Thus authentic Thai food in the heart of the Okanagan!

They did not disappoint. The atmosphere was soothing, reminisce of a Buddhist temple, complete with soft playing music and antique Thai decorations. That menu opens with a one page story of Thai dining culture and etiquette that was both informative and interesting; it also altered how I consumed my delicious lunch, slowly savouring each bite.

I suggest the lunch specials which allow you to try several favourites, curry of you choice, pad thai, spring roll, salad and rice. The full menu is loaded with items that I will be delighted to try on my next drive through town.

And I will be back. Most of my dining in the Okanagan is at the wineries and is very enjoyable if a touch formal. Benja Thai provides a welcome alternative especially before or after the long drive.

As a restauranteur I have a certain appreciation for my peers and their efforts. As such I like to share with others the spots I am most found of. I believe there is room for all of us to prosper. You can find me every day in the restaurants I am partner in at www.glowbalgroup.com.
